About Samsara
Founded in 2015 by two students at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Samsara is an American internet of things company providing hardware and software for connected operations. It was first created to provide wireless sensors.
Samsara is the second company of its founders – Sanjit Biswas and John Bicket – second company, after Meraki, a startup sold to Cisco Systems in late-2012.
In March 2018, Samsara reached the unicorn status after a funding round pushed its valuation over $1 billion. Later that year, after a round led by Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst, it reached a valuation of $3.6 billion.
In 2019, Tiger Global and Dragoneer joined Andreessen Horowitz and General Catalyst in a $300 million Series F funding that valued the Internet-of-Things startup at $6.3 billion.
In over seven rounds, Samsara raised $930 million.
IPO Figures
Though its initial public offering, the Internet-of-Things company is looking to raise as much as $805 million by offering 35 million Class A shares, expected to be priced between $20 and $23 apiece. Having a total of 500.35 million Class A and Class B shares expected to be outstanding after the market debut, Samsara’s valuation could reach $11.5 billion.
Valuation
Following a 2020 funding round, Samsara was valued at $5.4 billion.
